Several excellent form builder plugins like WP Forms, Gravity Forms, and Ninja Forms are available for the WordPress platform. We can easily customize and integrate these forms into our website. These forms offer a variety of free as well as paid features and pre-built templates that are suitable for most of the websites whether it be a survey, invitation, or an online quiz. Search engine giant Google provides another completely free but less popular option known as Google Forms. Before discussing the details of adding Google Forms to WordPress let us see the real advantage of this over the conventional form builders mentioned above.
If we want to run a survey or quiz across different platforms like a WordPress website, a non-WordPress website, and emails, then it would not be possible to use WordPress tailor-made forms like WP forms as these are supported only on a WordPress installation. On the other hand, we can easily integrate Google Forms into any system so that a multi-platform campaign can be easily created. Also, all the responses are stored in the Google drive and so the analysis of the responses can be done quickly without any hassle. Another advantage of Google forms is the ease of integration. In this blog, I will go through the steps to add Google forms to WordPress posts and pages.
Step1: Go to Google Forms and log in using our Gmail credentials. Once logged in we will see a screen with different templates as shown below.
Step2: There are several predefined templates available in the dashboard. We have to select the template that suits our needs. For the demonstration, I have selected the customer feedback template.
These templates are highly customizable and we can add or delete questions, response types such as text, checkbox, etc. There are also options to add images and videos to the forms. Once we have finalized the template design we can click the Send button on the top right of the screen. A new popup screen will appear. Now click on the <> symbol in the new screen
Step3: Now a new screen will appear which will have an embed code displayed. We have also options to specify the height and width of the form that we need to create. Just copy the embed code.
Step4: Go to WordPress add /edit a new post/page section on the dashboard. Switch from visual editor to text editor mode by clicking the text link on the top right side of the editor screen. Now create or modify the post/page where we want to add Google forms and then paste the already copied embed code.
Step5: Click the Publish button and we can see the form displayed inside the post.
Step6: Now just fill in the details on the form and click submit. A confirmation message will appear.
Step7: We can now go back to the Google Forms page and click on the form that is displayed. This form will have the name that we have given before. We can see the summary of responses here on this screen. We can also see a number on the right side of the responses tab that indicates the number of responses that we have received. Just click on the responses and we can see the detailed response that we have entered earlier.
Thus in a few simple steps, we have learned how to add Google forms to WordPress posts and pages.
Bonus Tip: There are several absolutely free features provided by Google like Google Authenticator, Google Recaptcha, etc that helps to add more security to our website. I have already discussed these topics before. Just go through these blogs and implement these on our websites to make our blogs less vulnerable to attacks.
